The SMARTE™ Advantage
Simple Installation
SMARTE™ can be easily installed by your own crew or volunteers with a certified supervisor. Geo-textile bags arrive filled with washed, 99% metal-free shredded recycled tires. The easy-to-handle bags ensure a uniform and stable depth of rubber base for maximum safety. Certified installers are also available.
Unique Top Surface
The P·E·M top matting keeps the rubber in place, out of the hands and mouths of small children, while enhancing wheelchair accessibility. Water quickly drains through the SMARTE™ layers of P·E·M matting, rubber bags, and washed stone.
Excellent Durability
SMARTE™ does not lose its resilient qualities due to extreme range in temperature, weather and ultraviolet exposure.
Provides Healthy Play Environment
The health and safety of children at play are of utmost importance. P·E·M Top Matting contains MICRO-CHEK Antimicrobial. A non-leachable biocide that guards against the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria.
Low Maintenance
The surface cleans easily with sweeping or wash down. Sweep away debris with a leaf blower. Requires no raking.
The SMARTE™ Story
SMARTE™ Playground Surface System was the result of a research and development grant funded by Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs' Tire Recovery Program. The grant was fueled by the pressing need to develop a playground surface that utilizes recycled car tires, while creating a user-friendly, affordable surfacing system that meets all crucial ASTM standards for Head Impact Attenuation and Wheelchair Accessibility. The research and preliminary testing were done at Illinois Park and Recreation Association headquarters. In the summer of 2003, full SMARTE™ surface systems were installed at Illinois Park District playgrounds. The participating park districts provided their maintenance staff to do the installations. After numerous successful installations throughout the park districts of Illinois, SMARTE™ has evolved into the affordable solution for playground safety, accessibility, maintenance and installation.
